Bed Bugs are one of the most difficult insects to treat and treatments will only work if preparation is carried out thoroughly .Bed bugs will hide away in the tiniest of cracks and crevices and if one or two miss treatment the infestation will not be brought under control, All bedding and curtains must be removed & washed. The room or rooms requiring treatment must be vacumed & cleaned and the waste diposed of carefully. The drawers, wardrobes and any other furniture must be emptied of all items. All clothes must be machine washed on as high a temperature as is possible, and not brought back into the room until treatments are complete. The rooms must be clear of toys, books, boxes pictures ect.Dispose of any items that are not essential.Putting items into a freezer overnight will kill bed bugs. Items should not be brought back into the room until treatment is completed.
After allowing an initial period for the room to dry out,you should continue to live in the room normaly as the bed bugs should be encouraged to remain active so that the treatments can work. In an unoccupied room bugs can become dormant for up to a year.
